Organic Cotton

Organic cotton is grown using methods and materials that have a low impact on the environment. Organic cotton can be produced worldwide. All organic cotton produced in the United States follow a strict set of guidelines including how the cotton is grown, ensuring the cotton is grown without the use of toxic and persistent pesticides and synthetic fertilizers. In addition to these guidelines, federal regulations prohibit the use of genetically engineered seed for organic farming.

Recycled

Recyling helps reduce our dependence on raw materials and helps eliminate waste that would be otherwise discarded. Polyester can be recycled from consumer waste such as plastic bottles or industrial processing waste. Nylon is typically recycled from industrial processing waste. Recycled fabrics can be woven or knit and come in a variety of weights and end uses. Recycled fabrics can be used in outerwear, athletic wear, technical apparel, workwear, uniforms, bags, and back packs.

Soft Shell

Soft shell fabrics are versatile outerwear fabrics that are designed to be used all year round. They are soft and comfortable, water resistant, and breathable. They can be 2 layers or 3 layers. Typically made from a water repelled stretch face fabric with a fleece or brushed knit backing for thermal insulation. In the case of 3-layer fabrics a breathable water-resistant film is added in between the face fabric and the backing. Typical end uses are athletic wear, leisure wear, travel wear, and workwear.

Waterproof Breathable

Waterproof breathable fabrics provide protection from the elements. Films or coatings are applied to fabrics making them resistant to rain, snow and wind. Waterproof breathable fabrics prevent water and wind from penetrating through the fabric but allow water vapor to escape. Fabrics can be 2-layer using a water repellent face fabric with a film or coating on the back. A 3-layer, water repellent face fabric utilizes a film with a protective tricot/knit on the back. Face fabrics can be woven or knit, mostly nylon or poly but can be made with a variety of fiber blends. Typical end uses are outerwear, uniform, Military, Tactical, tents and anywhere you need protection from the weather.

Cotton/Nylon is a technique which weaves a fabric utilizing both synthetic nylon and natural cotton. The nylon gives the material its’ strength and durability while cotton gives a soft, gentle hand(feel). This product can be used in outerwear, swimwear, activewear and leisurewear.

Cotton/Polyester is a technique which weaves a fabric utilizing both polyester and natural cotton. Polyester gives the material its’ strength and durability while cotton gives a soft, gentle hand(feel). This product can be used in outerwear, swimwear, activewear and leisurewear.

Ultra Light Weight

Ultra-light weight fabrics can be made in very small deniers ranging from 15D – 40D. Fabrics can be made in nylon or polyester in a variety of constructions as well as ripstops for added reinforcement. These fabrics can be made with technical performance features such as water repellency, down proofness and water proof breathable. They can be used in outerwear, insulated jackets, sleeping bags, packable shelters and anywhere you need light weight and packable fabrics.

Tencel™ Blends

Tencel ™ is a Lenzing branded fiber. Tencel ™ is made of wood pulp in a closed loop system which has a positive environmental impact. In addition to their eco-friendly, sustainable story, Tencel ™ fabrics have a beautiful hand, which are soft and gentle on the skin, also breathable and comfortable. Brookwood offers a large range of Tencel ™ blended fabrics for multiple end uses.

Wool

Wool is one of the oldest fibers in the world. Wool is a natural fiber that comes from a variety of animals, typically sheep. Wool is breathable and has thermal regulating properties. Well regarded and used in sweaters, outerwear, pants, skirts and scarves just to name a few.

Knits

Quilted

Quilted fabrics are typically two materials layered with a synthetic filling or down which when stitched together gives a billowy, puffed appearance. The outer layers of fabrics are generally nylon, polyester or cotton and are best suited for end uses such as outerwear, activewear, bags and accessories.

Satin

Satin is made by floating several yarns across the surface of the fabric giving the fabric its’ characteristic smooth and lustrous appearance. Our satin fabric can be used to make flight jackets, outerwear, soccer shorts, bags, handbags or anywhere you need some shine.

Nylon Stretch

Stretch nylon fabrics are typically made with a small percentage of elastic fibers such as spandex or with mechanical stretch yarns that impart a level of stretch and recovery to the fabrics. Fabrics can have 2- way stretch or 4-way stretch. Fabrics with 2-way stretch, stretch in one direction and fabrics with 4-way stretch, stretch in both directions. Fabrics are woven or knit and can be made of nylon or nylon blends. Stretch fabrics are used in apparel, athletic wear, activewear and leisurewear, workwear and uniforms and anywhere you would like to add an extra level of comfort.

Taffeta

Taffeta is a lightweight woven fabric made of filament yarn with a plain smooth appearance and hand(feel) This fabric can be made in nylon or polyester or a blend of the two which can also be made to be down proof. Taffeta has popular uses for outerwear, sleeping bags, linings, quilting and medical products.

Ripstop

Nylon ripstop is a special weave that gives the fabric improved resistance to tearing. The fabric is characterized with its’ small box check appearance. This fabric was initially used for parachutes but now is used in an array of products. It is ideal for outerwear, tactical gear, workwear, uniforms, sleeping bags and tents.

Polyester

Polyester is a strong, synthetic fiber with quick dry and wrinkle resistant properties. It is one of the most widely used fibers in the world. It is a fabric that is easy to print. Polyester has a multitude of end uses in swimwear, activewear, apparel, bags and backpacks.

Mesh

Mesh is typically known as a knit fabric characterized by openings in the fabric giving the fabric a net like appearance.
